Long Island Dive Centers
These are places where you can get trained if you're too impatient for us, or try and buy gear. They're places that are recommended to us or that we use personally. If you have any more recommendations, we'd love to check them out.
Port Diver based in Port Jefferson. They even offer courses in December. Conveniently located on Route 25A for your convenience.
Soundview Scuba is far far away on the tip of the island. They're really great people; we had our Open Water training through them last year.
Hampton Dive Center is the only dive store on Long Island that has their own pool. That makes it easier to get certified with them, and they're great people, too.
Long Island Divers' Association
LIDA is the largest SCUBA organization on Long Island. Of interest are their dive boat/club links and the annual Film Festival.
Long Island Dive Sites
A map of dive sites around Long Island maintained by New Jersey Scuba Diver. One of the most comprehensive listings in existence.
FishBase
FishBase - it's the Google of Fish Identification. Unlike Google, though, expect slow load times and crashes.
Project AWARE
Project AWARE is an environmental protection advocacy group with close ties to PADI and other SCUBA organizations.
Divers' Alert Network
DAN is one of the largest SCUBA insurance groups (and a non-profit organization), offering emergency assistance for decompression illness and many other issues.
Certification and Instructional Groups
NAUI - National Association of Underwater Instructors; the oldest SCUBA certification group.
PADI - Profession Association of Diving Instructors; the largest SCUBA organization.
SSI - SCUBA Schools International, another SCUBA certification organization.
